Camp Naish Venturing program

There are currently about 11 volunteers from HOAFF attending this program. If you are interested please contact Dave Andrews (phone number 816-741-8314)

Here is some information from the organizer:

Boy Scout Venturers are boys and girls ages 14-21 . The Odyssey is held at Camp Naish, in Bonner Springs, KS on April 26th.

There will be approx 200-250 youth ages 14-21 at the Odyssey.  The Odyssey is an opportunity for the kids to have a lot of fun and get exposure to all types of outdoor programs and hobbies.  Fishing is one of the Electives on the Ranger Program, and we thought it would be fun if the kids could have some sort of hands on experience in both fly tying and fly fishing. This age group (no offense to any teenager who may read this)  has the attention span of a two year old unless you can hook (no pun intended) their attention.  Anything hands on will always attract the kids more.  We run a type of midway atmosphere, which means the kids move from area to area at will and by choice.  Except for a few classes more geared for the adults, there are not set times except that the Midway is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  To answer your question about class size, as you can see there is no set size.  If your instructor has someone come up and strike up a conversation, then move into trying out rods or fly tying.  They will probably come in small groups.  If others come up, then the instructor can either make them wait (probably not a good idea on the rods) until they have finished with their instruction and the current group has finished tying their fly.  Do you feel that I am conveying the pandemonium correctly?  Also, feel free to have any kind of literature or displays there about your organization.

We are interested in having someone come out to our Odyssey and do presentations on fly-fishing and/or fly tying.  Do you think you could put me in touch with someone in your organization which might be willing to volunteer their time on that Saturday to do some presentation?
